Q4/BSP wheel their way to raising $35,000 for Oxfam in Laos
Q4/BSP’s finest, Mark Pretty and Paul Kelly, along with 12 other friends and clients successfully completed a gruelling 750 kilometre, 8 day mountain bike trip through Laos in July 2007.
Returning triumphant, save for saddle soreness and stomach complaints (allegedly food, not beer related), they raised $35,000 for Oxfam, which will be invested in sustainable development of Laos with particular focus on child education.
A sterling effort all round, especially considering all participants were over 40, and some even over half a century!
You’ll never walk alone Alan
Q4/BSP staff once again sponsored Talent Matrix’s Alan Schaverien who broke his previous record by walking 100 kilometres in 21 hours in the 2007 Oxfam Trailwalker event in New Zealand. Alan, a ‘Perambulating Pom’, joined a 4 person team who not only completed in good time but also raised in excess of $5,000 for Oxfam.
Q4/BSP sponsor Perambulating Poms in Oxfam Trailwalker Hong Kong
Q4/BSP once again were principal sponsors of the “Perambulating Poms on Tour” team. The Hong Kong Trailwalk along the MacLohse trail is the original Trailwalk, a team event for 4 people. The team members endured some record high temperatures and some injuries but persisted and completed the event intact. The Perambulating Poms raised over $12,000 in sponsorship for Oxfam.
Q4/BSP raise $15,000 for the John McLean Foundation
BSP Director Mark Braithwaite and his son Richard took part in the Mont 24 hour mountain bike race, raising $15,000 for the John McLean Foundation in the process. The foundation’s mission is to inspire, motivate and enable physically challenged kids to chase their dreams and live life to the fullest.
The Perambulating Poms go Platinum
BSP Director Mark Pretty joined fellow walkers in the Perambulating Poms team for Oxfam Trailwalker Sydney 2003. This was Mark’s first attempt at this gruelling 100km event. Each team member must complete the entire course to qualify as a finishing team. The team finished in a respectable time but due to their sponsorship efforts qualified as a Platinum sponsor. BSP is proud to be associated with this fantastic effort. Mark finished on Saturday evening, sore and bruised but was on a plane to Bangkok on Sunday morning for a client meeting - that’s commitment and dedication!
Q4/BSP ‘Takes the Next Step’ for UNESCO
BSP Director Mark Braithwaite created an online global environmental education strategy for UNESCO, challenging people to Take The Next Step and join an environmental organisation. As Chairman, Mark raised sponsorship from Sausage Software, Worldcom, St George Bank and DoubleClick. During the first 6 months, Take The Next Step’s banner ads were shown 75 million times around the world, driving traffic to WWF, Greenpeace and Clean Up. Over 4000 volunteers signed up. After a year of managing Take The Next Step, Mark handed the reins to UNESCO Special Envoy Robert Swan.
